The 2017 theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March, focuses on “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030.
A message by UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka on International Women’s Day
“We want to construct a different world of work for women. As they grow up, girls must be exposed to a broad range of careers, and encouraged to make choices that lead beyond the traditional service and care options to jobs in industry, art, public service, modern agriculture and science…” See more here.
Here at Twenty-Nine London as young women in business we wanted to get behind women in the work place, and bring together our network to celebrate International Women’s Day together. As a business in the creative industries, the team wanted to mark this day with something significant, so we decided to slightly adapt the very famous ‘Men at Work’ road sign that here in the UK we’ve seen for decades on our roads up and down the country, to best represent women.
In celebration, we hosted a brunch on Wednesday 8th March at Chiltern Firehouse surrounded by talented women from our incredible network, who are all busy trying to make their way in the world of work, and doing it there way! From Olympic Gold medalist Louise Hazel, to Games of Thrones actress and DJ Laura Pradelska, Chef and model Tess Ward , Radio DJ Pips Taylor, fashion designer CIMONE, Florist Charlotte Wood, talent booker Bambi Haines, Lulu Guinness Global PR & Marketing Director Francesca Sieler, luxury blogger Andrea from Haute Heel, Anya Hindmarch Global VM, Rhian Lewis and more.
We created limited edition t-shirts for the day and gave one to each #girlboss The brunch turned into inspiring talk between all the guests on how much more women should support each other in the work place. And we obviously agree!
